Registered What?
So many people don’t know what register_globals is, and some people have been getting responses that it’s turned off and that’s why their scripts aren’t working.
So why turn it off if it’s breaking a lot of scripts? Well, it’s mainly for security reasons.
Do to the cool server setup, you can turn register globals on for your account only. I wouldn’t suggest this, but if you really need to, then you can. You can contact support to find out how.
Turning off register_globals isn’t making it a super secure environment, but it does protect people in some ways. But yeah…
For those of you confused on why your scripts aren’t working, this is why.
Free Domain Contest!
So, TyL.CC has finished moving to the new server…
And everything seems to be running fine (if not, please contact us as soon as you can), so I thought it was time for a contest (that I’ve been saying will happen for the past year…)
So I finally added some funds to a domain name register that way I’d have to do the domain contest soon.
I added the funds today, but the problem is the choice of the contest…
I’m looking to make people use their heads and be creative, but I don’t want to make people feel bad…
So I think I have something up my sleeve, I just have to double check…
As for the start date, I’m aiming for this Sunday, and the end date will either be Oct 30, or whenever there are enough entries…
This first contest will be for hostees only. So sorry for those of you who are just browsing or like to hang out here for some reason.
I’m hoping to have a second contest open to more people later on, so feel free to check back every now and then for status on that.

Okay, Wordpress 2.2.3 has been released, so hurry up and upgrade!\
Now back to my blogging fun.
Do you ever see a layout that looks soooo cool that you want it?
I see some sometimes, and some of them are from people we host.
So here was my idea. We write an e-mail to the hostee with something like:
Dear Kick-Butt-Layout-Maker,
We have found your layout to be in violations with TyL Hosting’s site design policy.
In order to maintain the opportunity of keeping your site hosted for free at TyL, we
will ask you to send us the original design files (i.e. PSD, HTML pages, and etc.) in a
zip package and that you remove the layout immediatly from your site. If this is not
done in 24 hours, then we will remove your site from the server.—
Providing you with an awesome hosting service for 3 years,
TyL Hosting
I doubt I would ever send out an e-mail like that, unless they were some designer prodigy, but then I’d ask if they’d be willing to make me a layout…
But if I did send out e-mails like this, I wonder how many people would actually send me the PSDs and HTML and whatnot.
So, some of you are asking, what would I do if they did send the files.
Well, I can’t use it right when they send it. So we wait a month, or until they violate the TOS, and then we put the layout up as our own…
But yeah…
We’d never do that.
TyL, Live from Florida.
Or at least it was live when I was writting it.
I have moved to Florida. And I also start school on the 20th. So the updates and stuff on TyL might not go as fast as they used to.
We’ll still try to process them in 1-7 days. I think the most people have had to wait since the new system was 5 days.
I’ll check every Friday since I don’t have class on Saturday or Sunday.
If you do apply for hosting, please remember that the reason why is a description of your site.
We don’t ask you to enter in any secrete code. Our only check is that you understand that the Why is not why you need free hosting.
It’s why you need hosting.
Are you a Crazy Blogger?
I know here at TyL, we host quite a few blogs.
Some people update more often that others.
For me, sometimes it’s a pain having to login to Wordpress and click write to compose a short post.
But there’s this cool browser called Flock that let’s you do everything web 2.0 through it.
You can blog, use del.icio.us, digg, and tons of other things.
I think it’s a great browser, plus it’s built off of the same rendering engine as Firefox.
The only issues I have with it are on older computers.
But other than that it’s a great companion for the web.
